Who is Funico?

Husband-and-wife led team. Award-winning New York wedding photographers and videographers. Creative. Reliable. Trusted.

Our names are actually Alice & James Thompson, not Alice & James Funico (though we've gotten mail addressed to Mr. & Mrs. Funico!) We created the word "funico" because we wanted a name that people would remember and something that includes the word "fun" in it. Your wedding is a celebration and all parts of it should be FUN!

We started photographing weddings in 2004 and have loved it ever since. As demand for our services grew, we built a small team of photographers and videographers who share our passion. As photographers, we will capture the essence of your wedding day with candid photojournalism, fine art portraits and our unique style of "fine art photojournalism." At the same time, our videographers will provide a cinematic video for you to enjoy and relive for years to come.

Our goal is to document the many emotions of your wedding day. We are unobtrusive observers who anticipate and capture the smiles from the heart, the spontaneous gestures of love, and the rhythm of your celebration.

Our style: we will bring extra lighting with us to your wedding. Why? Because they help us to create more vibrant and more creative photos. Sometimes, natural daylight or reception hall lighting is either too bright or not bright enough. You don't want pictures that are out-of-focus or make your skin look orange-ish or yellowish! And, of course, you'd like to remember the beautiful blue sky you had on the day you said your vows or the pretty room you partied in afterwards. With our lighting, we can be sure that we can capture these things for you.

Our husband-and-wife team: we've had the honor to photograph hundreds of happy couples together. We know how the other person shoots and can make sure that our styles complement each other. It's important that on your wedding day, you don't have a photography team who hasn't worked together much (and who therefore may not work well together!) It's also nice for you to have the male and female perspectives that the two of us together can provide.

Our Signature Album: our most popular album is our signature custom-designed book. With any art, you have to like the artist's style. Same thing with album design - you have to like the designer's style. While many photographers offer coffee table books, the final book may not look as good if the wrong person designs it. Unlike many photographers who outsource album design, we design our Signature Album ourselves. Since we're the ones who took the photos, we think we're best-equipped to work with the photos. Also, given that it's our name at stake, we will care the most about quality.

Our service and professionalism: while we are artists, we also believe in being professionals. We've heard time and time again that while other wedding vendors cause our couples stress, we're the easiest part of the wedding planning process.

Before the wedding - we will help you plan your day. We want to know how the day will unfold so that we don't have to ask you any questions on the wedding day itself. The day will be chaotic enough and we don't want to add to the chaos!

During the wedding - we will be prompt, personable and organized. And, of course, we will be creative artists. We also always bring back-up equipment.

After the wedding - unlike flowers and music, photography and video do not end on the day of the wedding. By the time your wedding album is done, our relationship might have lasted another year (you won't want to do anything wedding-related for awhile after you get married). When choosing a photographer/videographer, you should be certain that he or she is an artist as well as a professional. Why the professional bit? Because you want to make sure that you get everything you were promised easily, in a timely manner and done well. We give timetables and easy instructions for everything that we create for you. Trust in us for professional service after the wedding as well as before and during the wedding.
