NYC Destination Wedding at the Essex House

Callan and Bryan from Milwaukee, Wisconsin wanted to have a small NYC destination wedding with some close friends and family. They chose the Jumeirah Essex House hotel since it could accommodate their small intimate wedding ceremony and dinner reception. Plus the hotel has a great midtown Manhattan location! It’s across the street from Central Park and only a few blocks up from Times Square.

They had an intimate ceremony performed by Reverend Will in the hotel’s Petite Salon. Afterward, we took a quick ride to get some photos in Times Square.

We hit a couple of more spots near the hotel and made it back in time for the newlyweds to join the fun at their cocktail hour. We were just in time to catch the impromptu sing-along with the pianist.

The Essexs House is a NYC landmark. We had to get photos of Callan & Bryan in the hotel’s beautiful art deco lobby and hallways.

Jason Kwintner from the Essex House was on hand to make sure everything went smoothly. He even arranged for the town car to take us on our quick photo shoot. If you want more information about their destination wedding packages you should call Jason at 212-484-5140.

Our Surf Club Wedding Will Be on TV

One of our recent weddings will be on a TV show called Four Weddings.  What is Four Weddings?  It’s a reality show that features four brides who go to each other’s  weddings to determine who had the best wedding. The brides compete against each other for the honeymoon of their dreams. Personally, we think our couple’s wedding was awesome and should easily win the prize.

Kally & George had their wedding reception at the Surf Club in New Rochelle.  To chat about photography for your wedding, call us at 646 234 8927 or CLICK HERE to contact us.

Meet beautiful Kally, the bride.

The Greek Orthodox ceremony was in an incredible church.

The wedding reception was at the Surf Club in New Rochelle. Kally made the party favors by hand and had the table numbers lit by candle light.

Their DJ’s lighting helped set the scene from their romantic first dance…

…to a rockin’ party.  The blonde in the background is one of the brides that will be rating Kally & George’s wedding.  Looks like she was having a great time.

Their reception had lots of dancing with tons of money being thrown around. Literally, because that’s a tradition at Greek weddings.

Greeks consider throwing money at dancers to be good luck.  There was a lot of luck in the air that night.

Now that you have seen how we captured the wedding, you can watch the show to see how a reality TV depicts it and see how the other brides felt about the wedding.  The episode featuring Kally and George will be airing on TLC on January 14 at 7:00 pm and on January 15 at 2:00 am EST.  Even though we captured about 2,000 images from their wedding, don’t be surprised if we were not caught on camera.  One of our grooms (and a mother of another groom) compared us to ninjas who lurk in the in shadows and miraculously appear when there is an important moment to be captured.

Adding the Stone House to Our Extended Family

We’re honored to have been chosen to be a preferred photographer for the Stone House in New Jersey.  We actually photographed one of the first weddings at the Stone House, Sandra & Craig’s celebration in October 2008.

Sandra & Craig had a very touching ceremony.  Very personal with lots of stories about how they had met and the important people in their lives.  We didn’t know until that day that Sandra’s brother had been extremely ill. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the wedding because of his illness and Sandra wanted to share a bit about him. It was a very sweet story and brought tears to Sandra’s sisters’ eyes.

The Stone House is charming and full of character. Look at how beautiful it looks all lit up!

We love the fire pit they have outside (great for toasting marshmallows to end the evening!)…

and their fantastic little wine cellar.

According to Sandra, “we are so excited about the photos – They are AWESOME!!”  To Sandra & Craig – glad you guys like your photos and many thanks again for referring Rebecca to us.  Congrats again and here’s to many years of happiness together with adorable little Riley!  To see more of the happy couple’s wedding pictures, click below.

Our New Partner – The Liberty House

We’ve been working with Landmark Hospitality caterers at Celebrate at Snug Harbor for awhile now and we’re excited to announce that we are now also a preferred photographer for their other facilities, the Liberty House and the Stone House. Many thanks to our friends at Landmark Hospitality for their trust in us.  We’ve photographed many weddings at the Liberty House and are a big fan, particularly of its spectacular view of New York City.  Look at this – breathtaking, isn’t it?

Kayla and Zachary celebrated with their bridesmaids and groomsmen a bit before the ceremony.  This is how women laugh and share together…

and this is how men express their joy.  Funny contrast, huh?

After much dancing and festivities, the happy couple exited the Liberty House to the cheers of their friends and family and amid a sea of sparklers.  What  a fun way to end the night!

According to Kayla, ” the pictures look amazing!!  I couldn’t be happier with them!”  To see more of Kayla and Zachary’s pictures, click on the image below.

Photo Contest Won with Eyes Closed

We love this photo of Ana & Alex.  The happy couple got married a few weeks ago and had their reception at the North Ritz Club.  After seeing the pic on Facebook, Alex commented on how his eyes were closed.  They were?  We zoomed in and squinted and squinted and realized that indeed, Alex was right – his eyes weren’t 100% open!   The bubble mania and Ana’s expression really drew us in, so much so that we didn’t notice Alex’s eyes.

Well, we submitted the image to an AGWPJA contest before we knew about the eye problem.  Once Alex pointed it out, we looked at each other and said “oh well, guess we goofed.”  Better luck next time.  To our suprise, the image actually won!  According to the judge “this is a fun, bubbly image that works well. The bride is the center of attention, which makes this photo successful.”  Guess the bubbles and beautiful Ana really drew in the judges as well!

A Halloween Weekend Full of Treats

Our Halloween weekend had no tricks, just treats.  We started the weekend shooting Mario and Christine’s wedding.  They had a small intimate wedding luncheon and allowed lots of time for a fun ”I Love NY” photo shoot.
The couple grabbed a couple of hot dogs in Manhattan,
did some contemplating in Central Park and romping in the leaves,

and ended the night sitting amongst the hustle and bustle of Times Square.

As you can tell, Christine & Mario were not concerned with getting a little dirty for the photos.  And that is always a treat for us.
Then, we photographed a Halloween party for Red Bull at the Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel.  The party was full of energy and great costumes.

Plus the executive chef had made some special treats using Red Bull.

On Halloween day, we went to spend time with James’ family on Staten Island, on a block that must be the most popular street for trick or treating in NYC.  Our little lobster baby had an extra special treat with a visit from her uncle Chris and his family all the way from Ohio.
This weekend has left us with a lot of great memories, photos and Halloween candy that our daughter is too young to eat.

Jessica & Brian’s Wedding at Tappan Hill Mansion, Tarrytown, New York

The last wedding in our 2009 anniversary series will be that of Jessica and Brian.  The happy couple got married on June 20, 2009 at Tappan Hill Mansion in Westchester, NY. June 20, 2009 also happens to be the day that our daughter, Lauren, was supposed to have been born!  Lauren came a few weeks early, but Jessica & Brian’s wedding date will always have a special place in our memory.

These are 2 of our favorite pics from the wedding.  Jessica has an absolutely beautiful bed, doesn’t she?

The wedding party worked hard for this image.  They had to do a lot of running for us to get this cool photo!

Brian’s best man gave one of the most innovative speeches we’ve ever seen – he did an interpretive dance…

…which was thoroughly enjoyed by the bride & groom.

We love this image.  A touching and beautiful moment where Brian looks absolutely enraptured by his beautiful new wife.

What does the couple think of their wedding images?  In their words, “we are thrilled!  Thank you!!!”  And, as for their album, Jessica says that “the album is AMAZING.  We get so many compliments on it!”

Reena & Ryan’s Indian Wedding at the Venetian Yacht Club, Long Island

Next in our anniversary series is Reena & Ryan’s wedding at the Venetian Yacht Club in Long Island.  This was actually our first Indian wedding, so it was even more special to us.  We always enjoy learning about other cultures and really value being able to witness all these fantastic traditions firsthand.  It one of the many things we love about being wedding photographers!

It took Reena hours to get ready.  And it’s not because she needs a lot of extra help to become a beautiful bride.  Reena is naturally a beautiful woman, but an Indian bride on her wedding day has a lot of extra make-up and accessories.

This little girl is watching with rapt attention as everything is applied…

…and the final product is truly magnificent!

After spending so much time observing the detailed preparations and the pre -wedding emotions, James admits to getting a little emotional when the stunning bride walked into the ceremony.  It was very sweet to see all of the tension disappear and Reena’s face light up when she saw Ryan.

The ceremony has many traditions, one of which involves rice as you can seee from the below.

This picture is actually from Reena’s sangeet.  In an Indian wedding, the bride has a sangeet a few days before.  It’s like a mini celebration with a lot of traditional dancing and singing.  At her sangeet,  Reena’s hands were painted with elaborate henna, which we found to be fascinating.  The intricate patterns made her hand look like a piece of exotic art!

During the vidai part of the day, the bride says good-bye to her family.  It’s a very touching time and as new parents ourselves, we can definitely understand Reena’s father’s feelings as he hugs his soon-to-be-gone little girl.

According to Reena, “we LOVE the pics… we really are speechless.”  Since last year, we’ve photographed a charity event for Reena’s cousin and the wedding of the same relative’s professor.  And, in 2 weeks, we will be photographing the wedding of another one of her cousins.  Thank you, Reena, for always thinking of us!

Clare & Nick’s Spring Lake Heights, NJ Wedding at The Mill

We’re going to feature 3 more 2009 weddings as part of our “anniversary series.”  Two of them happened in May 2009 (which is our wedding anniversary month) and the last occurred on June 20, 2009, which was actually the day that our daughter was suppposed to have been born!

The first of the 3 is Clare and Nick’s wedding at The Mill in Spring Lake Heights.  These are 2 of our favorite photos of the happy couple.  They’re also some of Clare and Nick’s favorites too, it seems.  How do we know that?  We know because they selected these 2 images for their thank-you card.

Clare was an absolutely beautiful and stylish bride.  As you can see, the back of her dress is fantastic and don’t you just love that jaunty featheredveil?

The couple’s dog was part of the wedding party, but alas, she wasn’t very cooperative for photos.

Not to worry, ring bearer to the rescue!

We always like to see our brides and grooms having a good time.  It’s your wedding – you should have a ball!  This couple in particular had a great time when their friends and family started singing to them.

After the celebration, we and the wedding party went to nearby Spring Lake.  As youc an see, Spring Lake has some beautiful spots for photos and this old bridge really caught our eye.  While it might not seem like it, we actually took this picture from very far away (to get the cool faded look to the trees in the background).

According to Clare, “the pictures are gorgeous.  It’s taken about a month to look through all of them!!!  They’re just beautiful.”  Thank you, Clare, for the kind words.  We’re very happy to hear that!

Mary & Jim’s Vineyard Wedding at the West Park Winery

Today is our wedding anniversary, so we’d like to continue our anniversary series featuring our newlyweds from this time last year.  Mary & Jim got married on May 9, 2009 at the West Park Winery.

These are 2 of our favorite photos of the happy couple.

Mary’s sister gave a very touching speech.  It turns out that Mary is a heart surgeon and many people owe their lives to her.  One guy in particular chased after her just to thank her for saving his brother’s life.  Brains, beauty and a very sweet person to boot.  Mr. Schumacher – you are one lucky man!

Mary and Jim hired some belly dancers for their reception.  For those of you who read our blog regularly, you know about our Best of 2009 photo contest.  This was one of the images that got a lot of attention.  Not votes, but attention from admirers with some very funny comments like “my vote is for #21, but this photo has my heart.”

The happy couple recently wrapped up their wedding album.  I really like this page because our pictures and our design really capture the festive mood of the night.

According to Mary, “the pictures were absolutely gorgeous. I love the song you put for the slideshow. It made me cry.  You really know how to put pics together to bring out the tears.”
