Sandy & Tamer – Wedding at Lake Isle Country Club, Westchester, NY

We’ve photographed many, many weddings in our 5-year history.  A few years ago, we had the pleasure of photographing Rania & Omar.  Rania then kindly introduced us to her sister, Sandy, and her cousin, Suzy, both of whose weddings we photographed a few months ago.   We will also be photographing their friend’s wedding in April.  We are deeply honored to be so highly regarded by Rania’s friends & family.  It’s also a lot of fun to see the same people again at each wedding.  It’s as if we’re going to a reunion every few months!

Sandy & Tamer had a very festive Egyptian celebration at the Lake Isle Country Club.  The couple had a great time (though Tamer looks a bit scared that his friends will drop him in this photo).  This is actually one of our favorite photos, partly because their very different expressions make us laugh every time we look at it.

Even the musicians they hired really got into the party.

Sandy’s sister, Rania, gave a very touching speech.  Apparently, when their mother was pregnant with Sandy, she didn’t want Rania to be jealous of the new baby, so she told Rania that Sandy was going to be her baby.  Rania therefore felt a very deep bond with her sister and tried to teach her everything she knew.  Lo and behold, Sandy grew up to become a very kind and loving person and Rania ended her speech by saying that she now has a lot to learn from Sandy.  We were very touched by the heartfelt words and as you can see, so was Sandy.

We like this photo a lot as well.  So did Sandy & Tamer, it seems, since they chose it for their thank-you cards.

In Sandy’s words, she is ”in LOVE with the photos!!!!  Thank u both so much!!!”  As always, we’re very happy to hear that our couples like their photos.

Celebrate at Snug Harbor – Our New Catering Hall Partner

We photographed Melissa & Jim’s wedding at Celebrate at Snug Harbor, a new catering hall in Staten Island.  We’ve been to Snug Harbor before, but had heard from Melissa & Jim that the facility had a new owner.  We were excited to meet the new team and see how they had renovated the place.  And, we were not disappointed.  It was our sincere pleasure to work with them.  We like them and they like us, so we’ve decided to partner up.

As they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words.  Below is our favorite photo from Melissa & Jim’s wedding.  It’s actually of their last dance and wonderfully captures Melissa & Jim’s last celebratory kiss.  As you can see, Celebrate at Snug Harbor has fantastic ceilings - they add a great artistic touch to the hall and make it a beautiful place to host a celebration.

Snug Harbor actually houses the Staten Island Botanical Garden, so has great places to take photos.  Melissa & Jim look like they’re in the middle of a jungle, don’t they?

There are lots of great paths with trees and flowers like the one below.

Celebrate at Snug Harbor has one of the most beautiful bridal suites we’ve ever seen.  Not that you’d want to spend your entire wedding in the bridal suite, but when we got married, we actually spent most of the cocktail hour in our bridal suite.  Sometimes, you just need to get away from the hubbub, put your feet up and enjoy some quality time alone with your new spouse!  Unfortunately, our bridal suite was not as nice as the one here.  Their bridal suite is a truly lovely sanctuary.

Julia & Charles – Wedding at the Palm House, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, NY

Julia & Charles got married at the Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  This is our favorite picture of the lovely couple.  The photo looks a bit surreal with the hazy lantern light and the floating lily pads, doesn’t it?  Definitely doesn’t look like Brooklyn.

Look at the expression on Julia’s face as Charles is saying his wedding vows.  It speaks volumes about her love for him.

Little did we know that Julia has an absolutely magnificent voice.  During the reception, she sang “Unforgettable” to her new husband.  In case you don’t know the song, it’s originally by Nat King Cole and the lyrics go something like this:

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, that’s how you’ll stay
That’s why, darling, it’s incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

It was very moving and as you can see from Charles’ face, he was touched to the core.

The Palm House is a beautiful place.  It looks like a gigantic glass house festooned with merry lights.  We know from past experience that kids LOVE an empty dance floor.  Not sure why, but it seems to call out to them and inevitably, they will be running around it.  And, of course, Julia & Charles’ little guests were no exception.

Julia recently came to see us to do her album and she said again that everyone who sees her photos loves them.  In her words “the photos are AMAZING!  They came out so great- thank you again!”

From the constant smiles on Julia & Charles’ faces, we could tell that they really enjoyed their wedding.  In fact, during the reception, Charles said that he and Julia were having the time of their lives.  Thank you, Julia & Charles, for inviting us to be a part of the “time of your lives”,

Maari & Mark – Destination Wedding in St. John, US Virgin Islands

Over the past several weeks, we’ve shown you a few photos from Maari & Mark’s wedding in St. John that have won honors from respected photography organizations.  We’d like to share a few more with you now.

You’ve seen this one before (it was considered ”best-in-show” at the WPPA Q2 competition)…

and this one (awarded Accolade of Excellence by the renowned WPPI).

Both of the above photos were taken at a pre-wedding “Trash-The-Dress” session.  Just in case you’ve never heard of the term, a “Trash-The-Dress” is a fun photo session where we do cool shots without worrying about getting the dress dirty.  We like it because it’s a relaxing time where we can have fun with the bride and groom without all the stresses of the wedding day.  We like to call it a date plus 2, the 2 being us tagging along as the third-wheel photographers.  And, you end up with one-of-a-kind wedding photos afterwards!

Maari got a dress specifically for the Trash-The-Dress.  On the wedding day itself, she had another beautiful gown.  That’s why she can walk into the dazzling waters of St. John without worrying about getting the dress wet.

James actually took this photo from beneath the water at Maari & Mark’s pool.  How does he do that?  No, James does not have fish-like gills to breathe for long periods of time underwater.  What we do have is lots of snorkeling gear and an underwater camera.  We love this shot because of the water’s dramatic effect on the photo.

Of course, we have to share some photos from the wedding itself.  This is one of Mark from before the ceremony.  Maari & Mark wrote their own very touching vows and Mark was practicing them right before the ceremony.  His ardor and diligence shows how much he cares for his lovely bride-to-be.

The couple rented a magnificent villa for their reception.  Maari is an art director and had great ideas about how to decorate the house for their wedding.  The blue and white lanterns added just the right splash of color to the festivities.  As for the blue shirt and white pants of the musician in the background, now that’s what we call coordination!  Not sure if he got lucky or just had supernatural foresight.

We had a great time photographing Maari & Mark’s wedding.  St. John is a photographer’s dream.  Hands down, this island has the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen.  The water is so clear - you can actually see your feet when you’re in the ocean (we’re used to the Jersey Shore and Long Island beaches where the water is far from clear)!

We are really happy with how Maari & Mark’s photos turned out and are even more happy to hear that they like them as well.  In Maari’s words, “I can’t stop looking at the pictures. They are so amazing!”

To Maari & Mark – thanks again for inviting us to go down to St. John with you!

Karen & Saro – Wedding at Woodcliff Lake Hilton, NJ

One of the things we love about photographing weddings is the fact that we can experience celebrations of all types.   We’ve been invited to Egyptian weddings, Italian weddings and Philippino weddings just to name a few.  Each culture has its own unique customs and we love seeing them all!

Recently, Karen & Saro got married at an Armenian Orthodox church in New Jersey.  This is our favorite picture of Karen.   As you can see, the cross coming so near is not something that she is used to.

Karen has always wanted to take photos in a supermarket in her wedding dress.  We thought it was a great idea as well.  Even a bride needs to go food shopping.  Don’t know what the manager of the store thought though.  He came by and looked a little confused.

The couple had a lot of terrific Armenian music at their reception.  There was a lot of great dancing that we’ve never seen before and we had a lot of fun capturing it all.  Here’s a picture of Saro dancing with the men.  In the backround, you can also see Karen dancing with her girlfriends.

Karen had a really good time at her wedding.  She was dancing all night long – don’t think she ever sat out a dance.

In Karen’s words, the photos “are really beautiful.  You captured some great moments!”  It always makes us happy to hear that our couples like our photos, so thank you, Karen, for sharing!

Our Photo Wins Accolade of Excellence

We think Maari & Mark’s wedding in St. John had some great photos.  Apparently, so do professional photographer organizations.  A few weeks ago, we mentioned that one of their photos won “Best-in-Show” at a WPPA competion.  Recently, the international WPPI awarded their highly sought-after Accolade of Excellence to another one of Maari & Mark’s photos.

A kiss on the magnificent beaches of St. John…romantic and absolutely beautiful.  It’s no wonder that WPPI likes it.

But again, we have to thank Maari & Mark for being such great subjects!

Lauren & Matt – Wedding at Vineyard Caterers, Long Island

Lauren & Matt got married at a vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island.  We’ve never photographed a wedding at a vineyard before, so were really excited!

This is our favorite picture of the couple.  Looks like it’s from a magazine, doesn’t it?  Beautiful day, beautiful location and a beautiful couple…

They got married right under a grape arbor.  What a great idea!

As you can see, Matt is totally infatuated with his lovely new wife.

But, of course, the infatuation goes both ways.  Aaahhh, to love and be loved…

Lauren & Matt had a great time at their wedding.  They were dancing non-stop.

And, here’s Matt getting down with the girls.

We had a great time photographing all the fun and celebration.  In Lauren’s words, they “love” their wedding photos, which makes us very happy.

It’s funny.  Lauren & Matt are the first couple to make us realize that people like us because they find it really easy to work with us.  We’ve heard it before, but it didn’t really sink in until both Lauren & Matt made a point of telling us.  We were flattered and had a a déjà vu feeling when a week later, our next couple thanked us for the same thing!

In Lauren’s words, “thanks again to the both of you for making this part of our wedding enjoyable and stress-free.  We had to deal with enough vendors who needed to be micro-managed and it was a real pleasure to work with you guys!”

Thank you, Lauren & Matt, for the kind words and we’re very happy that you like your fabulous photos!

Our Print Wins “Best-in-Show”

The WPPA hosted its second quarter print competition last night and our print won “best-in-show”!  The award-winning photo below was taken at Maari & Mark’s destination wedding in St. John, USVI.

Thank you, Maari & Mark, for being such great models!

Jennifer & Matthew – Wedding at West Point, NY

Jenn & Matt got married at the US Military Academy at West Point.  Why West Point?  Because Matt, a highly-decorated officer, graduated from West Point.

From the time we spent with Jenn & Matt, we know that they are very much in love.  I’m sure you can tell that from this photo.

As you can see, the Catholic Chapel at West Point is absolutely beautiful.

Since Matt went to the military academy, he has a lot of friends who are also Army officers.  Of course, a saber arch is therefore a must.  Matt’s friends are starting their formation now…

…to announce the coming of the new Captain and Mrs. Deloia.  The tradition ends with the saber bearers smacking Jenn’s bottom to welcome her into the Army (both we and the crowd thought this was very funny and laughed out loud!)

In Jenn’s words, Matt is “one in a million.”  We agree 100% – Matt is truly an officer and a gentleman.  We are honored to have been able to capture this exceptional couple’s wedding day for them.

A former ballerina marries an officer and a gentleman. Sounds a bit like we’re writing the script to a movie starring Richard Gere, doesn’t it? Nope. True story and we are very happy that we were able to be part of it.

Haley & Farzad – Wedding at Water’s Edge, NYC

Haley & Farzad recently got married at the Water’s Edge in NYC.  They had a festive celebration with great Persian music and dancing and completed the night with a fun little dessert cruise.

As you can see, it was an overcast day.  Not to fear - as the picture below demonstrates, clouds and a gray day can actually make for splendid photos!

This is one of our favorite photos of the couple.  Their smiles tell it all as they happily celebrated their new life together with their friends and family.

Haley & Farzad had the great idea of taking their guests on a dessert cruise around Manhattan.  A cup of coffee, a piece of cake, and the lights of Manhattan shining in their full splendor - what an ending to a beautiful night!
