A Thompson Halloween

Visiting my sister’s family on Staten Island has become a Halloween tradition for us.  We believe that her street has become the most popular block on Staten Island for trick-or-treaters.  Literally hundreds of kids in costumes walk from house to house looking for treats.  We’ve even seen minivans pull up and drop off loads of trick-or-treaters.  Think the word has gone around that Kelvin Avenue is where the good candy loot can be found.

This year my nephew, Luke, was a monkey.  He was more interested in playing with the car I gave him than in walking around in his monkey suit.

My niece, Maya, wasn’t so interested in trick-or-treating until she saw a boy from her class.  She soon found out that it was difficult to keep up with a boy while wearing plastic shoes.  Maya is very good at posing for photos.  Take this picture for example.  Rather than doing a boring pose, she’s pretending to be scared of the large inflated ghost behind her.  Much more interesting!

Since I’m the world’s best uncle, it’s my responsibility to give the kids a fun way to burn off their Halloween candy sugar high. Thanks to my Nikon D3 camera, I can take a lot of photos very quickly.  The kids were mesmerized by the strobe-like effect of the flash going off 10 times in a row.  They were even more entertained when I had them dance for the camera.

Click below to see Maya and Luke’s dance moves. As you can see, though Maya was dressed as a princess, her moves were not very princess-like.  More like a court jester, I think.  But, of course, a very cute court jester!  And meet Luke, who we now call “the little jumping jalapeno” (the red pajamas remind you of a hot little pepper, doesn’t it?)
